ParkARLINGTON HEIGHTS – Four local park districts will receive extra help from the state for improvement projects, State Senator Ann Gillespie (D-Arlington Heights) announced today.

“Our local park departments work hard to manage the facilities that offer residents an active and healthy lifestyle,” Gillespie said. “These grants will help them continue their work without burdening local taxpayers.”

Grant recipients include:

  • Arlington Heights Park Dist. - $400,000 for Recreation Park.
  • Palatine Park Dist. - $400,000 for Maple Park.
  • River Trails Park Dist. - $400,000 for Aspen Trails Park.
  • Rolling Meadows Park Dist. - $312,600 for Cardinal Drive Inclusive Playground.

The funds come from a grant created by the Illinois Department of Natural Resource’s Open Space Land Acquisition and Development program. The program provides more than $28 million to support park projects across the state.

Applicants were evaluated on a competitive basis. The Department of Natural Resources determines grant recipients based on statewide outdoor recreation goals, the extent of local planning, site characteristics and other special considerations. Senator Gillespie congratulates her local recipients on their successful bidding process.
